Producers of statistics must have access to tools and guidance that are based on common concepts and quality criteria. Where possible, the information used to provide these is published here for the benefit of data producers from the Government Statistical Service (GSS) and the wider statistical community.

Methodology and quality
Information detailing the development, and quality assuring the production of specific products, and general work being done in the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and across the GSS.

Geography
Geography is key to virtually all official statistics, providing the structure for collecting, processing, storing and aggregating the data.

Classifications
A classification assigns items to categories according to shared characteristics and it provides a framework for the description and comparison of statistics.

The National Statistics standard
The National Statistics quality mark applies to statistics that are compiled in accordance with standards and procedures set out in the National Statistics Code of Practice and Protocols.

Development programmes and projects
Information and documentation covering ongoing development work in ONS, including the Allsopp programme.

National Statistics Code of Practice
The National Statistics Code of Practice sets out the key principles and standards which official statisticians are expected to follow and uphold. It is supported by twelve Protocols which describe how those principles and standards are to be implemented in practice.

UK Centre for the Measurement of Government Activity (UKCeMGA)
The Centre has been established to strengthen the capability of ONS to publish authoritative and coherent measures of the output and productivity of government-provided services.
