National Statistician's Review of Housing Market Statistics
The National Statistician is carrying out a review of official Housing Market Statistics to ensure that users' needs are met as effectively as possible. The report of the first stage of the review, on House Prices, was published in December 2010 and can be found under the 'Related links' section on the right of this page.
The second stage of the review looks at wider official indicators on the housing market.
The review will:
- identify available housing market statistics
- document the strengths and weaknesses of available statistics
- identify key user needs for official housing market statistics
- identify gaps in current official statistics provision of housing market statistics
- make recommendations for further development work to improve official statistics on the housing market
Following the announcement of the transfer of the Department for Communities and Local Government¡¯s House Price Index to ONS, work on the National Statistician's review of wider housing market statistics will be progressed.?The report is expected to be published in early 2012.
In the meantime, the National Statistician continues to welcome comments on the coherence and accessibility of statistics on the housing market.
