General Register Office for Scotland (GRO(S))
The General Register Office for Scotland - GRO(S) - is a Non-Ministerial Department, part of the Scottish Administration.
GRO(S) are responsible for information about Scotland’s people, principally:
- Overseeing the registration of births, marriages, deaths and other vital events;
- Providing key family history information to the public;
- Running the Census;
- Maintaining the NHS Central Register for use by the NHS and local authorities;
- Using Census and other data to provide statistics about the present and likely future population and households.
