Measuring Consumer Prices: the options for change

The UK Statistics Authority is currently consulting on the UK's range of consumer price statistics.

The consultation follows a recent review of consumer price statistics, led by Mr Paul Johnson (Director, Institute for Fiscal Studies).

It will run for three months, providing users with an opportunity to express their views on the issues raised by Mr Johnson in his review.


The Authority weclomes all contributions to the consultation. We encourage respondents to provide their submission online, where possible. Next Steps

After the consultation closes on 15 September 2015 the Authority will publish submissions and summarise these in a report. Any final decisions by the Authority will only be made after reflecting on consultation submissions.


During the consultation period, the Authority is hosting a series of consultation events across the UK.

The first of these was held in London on the morning of 24 June 2015.

Upcoming events are scheduled as follows:

  • Belfast: 18 August (1:00 - 3:00pm)
  • Edinburgh: 20 August (10:00am - 12:00pm)
  • Cardiff: 3 September (10:30am - 12:30pm)
  • Manchester: 1 September (1:30 - 3:30pm)
