Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR)

Government Statistical Service statisticians and their staff in Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) and its agencies produce 'National Statistics' and other official statistics under the overall management of a Head of Profession for Statistics, Director of the Statistics and Analysis (SA) Directorate within the Strategic Policy Analysis (SPA) Group. They are responsible for the provision of statistical advice to economists, policy-makers, senior officials and ministers, on all micro- and macro-business statistics and on a range of related social statistics, and on surveys, including their commissioning. They collect and publish statistics to internal, Office for National Statistics, other government and private sector users, operational agencies and to Parliament, in the following key topic areas:

  • energy statistics
  • construction statistics
  • insolvency statistics
  • low pay statistics
  • labour force, workforce, union membership and various related statistics
