Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF)
The analytical function within the Department for Children,Schools and Families (DCSF) is multi-disciplinary with economists, social researchers, operational researchers and statisticians working side by side. Government Statistical Service (GSS) statisticians in DCSF work under the management of a Head of Profession for Statistics, who is the head of the Data Services Group. DCSF statisticians are responsible for the regular collection and dissemination of quantitative data. This includes the publication of national statistics covering, for example, the numbers of educational establishments and pupils/staff in them, school absence and exclusions, class sizes, academic attainment, early years education and looked after children. Statisticians in DCSF work in conjunction with statisticians in the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) to publish information on the post-16 sector.
