Information Centre for Health and Social Care (IC)
The NHS information Centre provides facts and figures to help the NHS and social services run effectively. Statisticians in the organisation are professionally responsible to the Head of Profession for Statistics, a Programme Head in the Operations Directorate. They are responsible for the delivery of statistics covering the following key topics/areas:
- Audits and performance (for example, ambulances and Quality and Outcome Framework)
- Health and lifestyles (for example, alcohol, contraception, obesity, smoking)
- Hospital care (for example, hospital episodes, maternity)
- Population and geography (for example, Neighbourhood Statistics)
- Primary care (for example, general practice, dentistry, prescriptions)
- Screening (for example, Breast and Cervical cancer)
- Social care and mental health (for example, Home Help services, learning difficulties)
- Workforce (for example, NHS staff numbers, earnings and vacancies)
