Office of Manpower Economics (OME)

The Office for Manpower Economics (OME) is an agency of the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR). It provides an independent Secretariat for each of the six public sector Pay Review Bodies and the Police Negotiating and Police Advisory (England and Wales) Boards. The Head of Statistics Profession is located within OME’s Research and Analysis Group (RAG), which provides support across all the pay bodies which OME supports. The other Government Statistical Service statisticians are bedded out in the secretariat teams and do not report directly to the Head of Profession; a matrix management structure is in operation. They are primarily responsible for ensuring that the public sector pay Review Bodies/Police Negotiating Board base their recommendations on the best available (timely, accurate, comprehensive and accessible), impartial statistical advice.
