Rocky Harris

Statistician in the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), UK, responsible for natural capital accounts and water statistics.

Rocky leads within Defra on the development of natural capital accounts in the UK.  He is co-author of the ONS-Defra publication on the Principles of Natural Capital Accounting and has wide practical experience of putting environmental accounting principles into practice.  He is a lead member of the UN Technical Committee on the development of international standards for the concepts and methods for ecosystem accounting, with a particular focus on valuation approaches.  In addition to accounts for terrestrial ecosystems, he is actively involved in work on natural capital accounts for marine areas, and is the Defra lead for a project to develop such accounts for the UK.
