What we do

The Office for Statistics Regulation is the regulatory arm of the UK Statistics Authority (taking over the role of the Monitoring and Assessment team). We provide independent regulation of all official statistics produced in the UK. We conduct assessments against the Code of Practice for Official Statistics, to ensure  all official statistics are of the highest standard and represent ‘trustworthiness, quality and value.’

We deliver our regulatory function through:

  • Assessment: assessing statistics against the Code of Practice for Official Statistics, and if they comply in full with the Code, designate them as National Statistics.
  • Systemic Reviews: Reviewing issues and opportunities at a systemic level.
  • Casework: Making public comment on the uses of official statistics, often based on complaints brought to our attention by others.
