We are assessing the extent to which DCMS Sectors Economic Estimates statistics meet the professional standards set out in the statutory Code of Practice for Statistics. This assessment covers Gross Value Added (GVA), Employment and Trade estimates which were most recently published in late 2017, as well as Business Characteristics, Regional GVA and Productivity estimates which will be published in February 2018. This is the first time that this series of statistics have been assessed for National Statistics status.
The Code of Practice covers a wide range of issues centred round the three pillars of trustworthiness, quality and value. Capturing the views of those who use, or would like to use these statistics, forms an important part of our judgement, including how they could better meet more people’s needs.
We would appreciate hearing from users now about their experience of using GVA, Employment and Trade estimates published last year, as well as hearing from users after the publication of Business Characteristics, Regional GVA and Productivity estimates in February. Please share your views on all of these statistics by Friday 16th March 2018.
Feedback can be in any form, but it would be particularly helpful to us if you could structure it around the following areas:
- For what purpose do you use the statistics?
- Are the statistics of sufficient quality for your needs? How clear is the advice from DCMS about the strengths and limitations of the statistics? What further information would you like?
- Is the statistical commentary helpful to you? How could it be improved?
- If you have requested additional data or raised queries with DCMS about these statistics, or if the statisticians have sought your views about any aspect of the statistics, please tell us how well DCMS engaged with you.
We welcome comments on any other aspect of these statistics which you think might be relevant to our assessment.
It may be useful for us to share your comments with DCMS to enable them to take account of your views. Please could you advise if you are happy for us to pass your comments and contact details on?
You can email your response to the regulation team. If you would prefer to speak to a member of the assessment team to share your views, call Louisa McCutcheon (01329 447660) to arrange a time to talk.
