Population

The Population theme includes statistics on the size and geographic spread of the population, on the factors driving population change (including births, deaths and migration) and on topics such as families and older people.

Current regulatory activities:

International migration – we have been exploring the extent to which the available data on international migration meet the needs of society and what might be done to fill any gaps. Having published an outline of the work we plan to do and a summary of our activities since 2009 in January 2017, we held roundtable discussions with statistics users and producers in the autumn of 2017 and have written these up and sent a letter to Iain Bell, Deputy National Statistician as a result.  The Office for Statistics Regulation made a commitment to publish an update on the outcomes of the roundtable; we are currently reviewing the progress made by statistics producers and expect to publish this update in July/August.
